The situation

On August 26, 2026, catastrophic flash floods and mudslides swept through communities along the Nepal–Tibet border, following a massive glacier and rock collapse high in the Himalayas. A powerful surge of water, ice, mud, rock and debris traveled downstream, devastating communities and critical infrastructure.

The disaster has caused a devastating loss of life, with hundreds of people killed and many others still missing. Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other essential infrastructure have been destroyed or severely damaged, leaving some affected communities difficult to reach. Search-and-rescue operations, evacuations and emergency relief efforts remain underway, while authorities continue monitoring the risk of additional flooding.

The Nepal Flood Relief Fund is designed to help support humanitarian organizations responding to urgent needs and longer-term recovery. Depending on evolving conditions, assistance may include emergency shelter, food, clean water, healthcare, hygiene supplies, protection services and support for communities rebuilding after the disaster. The humanitarian situation is evolving rapidly, and organizations included in this Fund may change as needs on the ground become clearer and response priorities evolve.
